hello!
it’s me… “old bee.” i hope you’re well. i finish my MFA this week (scary!), and as that pushes me into reflection, it also motivates me to fire up the old substack engines again. so… here we are!
i need a motivator to write more short fiction alongside my current novel project. trying to stick to a schedule did not work out for me. but that doesn’t make freakazoid futile. it’s better, i think, to use it as a wall to throw things at. freakazoid’s job in 2025 is to be a home to projects that i just can’t get a handle on. some will be paywalled, most will not be. follow along for these #beautiful and #important stories that are probably going to have freaky monsters in them.
i hope you enjoy this journey with me. let’s venture onward… into the realm of stories and beautiful magic and friendship.
link roundup, while we’re here:
my roommate and i are similarly obsessive about television as a form. we watch shows together (right now: star trek: the next generation. previously: deep space nine and breaking bad and glee and house MD and hannibal and grey’s anatomy and then also just shows that are coming out now (doctor odyssey! i love you forever!)), we are writing a pilot together, and we especially love to take everything extremely seriously as critics. this is to say, he wrote a marxist analysis of grey’s anatomy that is really worth checking out.
my new technique for chasing the wild high of pokemon-related gambling (so big right now!) without bringing money into the picture. i love clicking on rectangles and being immediately rewarded with the sight of my best friend appletun.
as a youtube connisuer, here are the videos i’ve had on my mind lately:
along with releasing one of my favorite comedies of last year with rap world, connor o’malley put out this treatise on sexuality and world peace.
i hate recap youtubers on principle; have a thesis statement or die. in spite of this, mike’s mic remains one of my GOATs. his lost series is for me, truly, as a former lost diehard. exposé vindicated!
ro ramdin best youtuber in the game no questions asked. her take on the minecraft movie is insightful and funny as fuck, as ever.
a few months ago i found what is maybe the greatest video of all time. i think this individual needs to listen to more music made by women. i also think that this is a perfect youtube video.
i’ve been complimented by many for my immaculate taming of the youtube algorithim. beautiful women are lining up at my door, begging me to make youtube dot com usable for them. the key is in this video.
in terms of parting tunes for this message… i saw cumgirl8 open for of montreal back in march, and as someone who already loved what i’d heard from them… they’re so great live that it made that love go exponential.
